An Introduction

(I’ve lost the actual date on this one; enjoy the approximate time!)

Rendra leaned against a wall, eying the assortment of cutthroats also gathered in this strange place. “Is my revenge worth it, to be surrounded by such people?” She had often thought this on her way to this hidden fortress…

Her thoughts wandered back to Tanchico. It was still a burning lance through her soul to think of the moment that drove her away from her home… to see her brother and… And… “Don’t think about THAT!” she thought furiously to herself, fingering a dagger in her belt it response to a man with a lecherous gaze attempting to scoot closer to her. He glared slightly, but moved on, perhaps in search of more amicable company.

It hadn’t been hard for her to find those sworn to the Dark, especially once the oath was upon her. In fact, it had been surprising to find those that she had known her whole, short life already dedicated to the Great Lord, who were willing to show her the ropes. “But why did I feel that I needed to leave Tanchico?” she mused, knowing full well she could’ve served her new master there just as easily, and learned enough to kill those who she opposed. But she had to get away, even if it meant risking her life by being a girl on the road alone…

Rendra’s thoughts were interrupted as she noticed a vision of pure white moving through a hurriedly parted crowd of people started moving through a sea of VANISHING people as the woman moved… towards her!

“What under…” Rendra started to mutter to herself, only for her words to be overridden by a wash of sound from the woman before her, and all thoughts of speech fleeing briefly as a hand brushed her cheek, “What is your name?”

Such a simple question, yet it took Rendra a minute to come back to herself. She drew herself up tall, and faltered somewhere between defiance towards this person of obviously high standing, to sheer terror. The terror won out as Rendra bleated out her name, “Mmm-mmy name is… is… Rendra!!” She shook slightly under the cool gaze being directed towards her, and though she was sure those around her could hear her knees clacking together, she attempted to control her fear, and look back at the lady before her as calmly as she could. This was her attempt at a new, better life, and she wasn’t going to let herself be oppressed again, even if it meant dying. Revenge was her only reason for living right now anyways…

Character History:

Rendra was the youngest of five. Her parents were street hawkers, so not only did they not have much in the way of money, what little they did have rarely trickled down to her. She had little in the way of formal education, but was rapidly educated from a young age of the ways of the streets.

She saw many uprisings and riots, and was quickly desensitized to the idea of the Light and the Creator sheltering and protecting her and others. Many she cared for had died at the hands of the Panarch and King’s military forces, militant bodies that owed fealty to those that were supposedly invested into their positions with the blessings of the Light.

The last straw came shortly before her fifteenth nameday. Herself, her 17 year old brother Jon, and his friend, Aldric. The three were wandering around the streets, good-naturedly pickpocketing and panhandling; their usual everyday activity. They had stopped for a bite to eat, Rendra smiling shyly at Aldric, and he back. Of course, their bite to eat had been fliched from a passing cart, what glee to snatch and run! This time, it seemed, they hadn’t run far enough away.

As they were casually making their way down the street, they were suddenly set upon by City Guards. It seems that the driver of the cart was more astute than they had realized, and tipped them off. Her brother pushed her aside as Aldric charged the guards. She ran from the scene, tears streaming hotly down her face as her heart froze within. She later found out that both died as a result.

With the two people dearest to her gone, a sense of vengance filled her being. Rendra turned her heart fully to the Dark, and decided to seek out local Darkfriends. A circle located her, and she explained her desire for revenge. She was tipped off to seek the Fortress for assassin training, and took that advice.
